Our newly refurbished Bunkhouse sleeps 28 guests. Set in 30 acres of the Rydal Hall Estate, close to the 30-bed hall, the Grade II Thomas Mawson Gardens, the Campsite, Eco-pods and two-holiday cottages.
This spacious budget self-catering group accommodation has all you need to make the most of your stay in the Lake District. Whether it be cycling, walking, or a family group, our brand-new facilities will enable you to relax following a big day in the great outdoors.
An ideal location for a restful holiday and a relaxing base to explore the surrounding Lake District National Park. Ideally located on the Coffin route between Ambleside and Grasmere, with an onsite tea shop overlooking Rydal Beck. Rydal Water, Nabscar and the Fairfield Horseshoe are at your doorstep.
Sleeps up to 28 people:
- Room 1 - sleeps 3 (A single bed and one bunk bed with an accessible toilet and a wet washroom)
- Room 2 – sleeps 6
- Room 3 – sleeps 9 (This will also have a single bed)
- Room 4 – sleeps 10
The three and 6-bed dorms are en-suite. The nine and 10-bed dorms use the toilets and showers on the ground floor. The rate includes pillows and pillowcases, but guests supply all other bedding.
All bunkbeds now have new memory foam mattresses, giving a much more luxurious comfort for a good night’s rest. The bedrooms have storage space and hanging rails for clothes with a shelf beside each bunk to put belongings, such as phones, books, and glasses, when you are relaxing in bed. There are mirrors in each room and hangers-on doors for coats.
The communal room has newly fitted furniture, a table & chairs, and a TV. Along with a wood burner on the first floor. (One bag of logs is complimentary, with additional bags available to purchase from reception).
The fully equipped kitchen is beside the communal room and includes a cooker, microwave, crockery, cutlery, and cooking utensils. Extra shelving has been added for better storage of food and drinks.
The lounge floor has been sanded and revarnished. The interior has been painted, and it has brightened up the place.
All the shower floors downstairs are being replaced, and partitions are put inside where guests can hang their belongings.
In the downstairs toilets, shelves have been added to leave toiletries; outside the showers, there are also shelves for guests to leave their belongings.
The Bunkhouse is ideal for groups staying for retreats or events who prefer a more straightforward style of accommodation that are looking to cater for themselves, but catered packages are also available.
We offer a friendly atmosphere set in spectacular scenery in the heart of the Lake District, with something for everyone.
The bunkhouse is open all year round except the Christmas period – the 24th to the 27th of December each year.
Check-in at 4 pm and check-out at 10 am.

The children had a very comfortable stay in a beautiful, tranquil location. Thank you for such a wonderful stay at Rydal. The staff were extremely helpful.
The rooms are spacious, the main dining/living room is well equipped providing everything that is needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were brilliant in modelling the construction and supporting the children.
The children enjoyed the practical activities and displayed fantastic teamwork. We would definitely recommend a stay at Rydal Hall.
