Handmade Felt “Keepers” and Wallpockets –

2 Day Workshop With Catherine Slater

Cost: From £250 per person

On this workshop we will begin by making a flat piece of handmade felt. This can be decorated with coloured fibres and threads and fastened with handmade felt beads or buttons of your choice. We will then line the felt and cut it ready for stitching together by hand to make a 3D container to your own choice of size and shape. Patterns will be available to help you.

On the second day we will learn how to make nuno felt. This is handmade felt that is laminated to silk or cotton which produces a textured fabric. We will also learn how to make unique fastenings for the keepers using felt or found objects.

The keepers can be freestanding or wall mounted.

Bio:

Catherine Slater is a textile artist working mainly with her own handmade felt. Her work combines traditional craft with contemporary designs and her designs include landscapes and seascapes, as well as wearable art, including jewellery.
