Campsite Guidelines
Nestled in the peaceful woodlands of Rydal Hall, our tranquil campsite is the perfect retreat for individuals and families who want a quiet escape into nature. It lies in a conservation area beneath the iconic Fairfield Horseshoe, just 1 mile from Ambleside and 2.5 miles from Grasmere. What’s more, Rydal Water and the famous Rydal Caves are right on your doorstep. As a result, our campsite near Ambleside is a simple yet comfortable base for exploring the Lake District, England’s largest National Park.
Our facilities include a shower and toilet block, supplied by our own private water source. In addition, our on-site hydroelectric plant and solar panels generate the electricity, so you get excellent facilities with minimal environmental impact.
- Peace & Quiet. Our site is a place of tranquillity and natural beauty. To maintain this atmosphere, we do not allow loud or excessive noise or music at any time.
- Group Bookings. Family groups of up to 2 adults and 4 children are welcome without prior arrangement. However, larger groups must contact us in advance.
- Responsible Guests Only. For this reason, we do not accept hen, stag, birthday parties or same sex groups. In addition, we restrict group bookings during peak times. We are not a party site. If this is what you are looking for, please look elsewhere.
- Facilities. Plug sockets and hairdryers are available in the shower block – A small freezer is provided for ice blocks – You may use fire pits, but they must sit at least 2ft off the ground and you must keep them under control at all times. Please put out all fires by 10:30pm. Also, firewood is available at reception. Meanwhile, all pitches are vehicle-free. All cars must use the designated parking areas. Please note, some pitches may require a short uphill walk.
Groups, parking and pitches
- Group Use & Special Bookings – We are proud to host Duke of Edinburgh groups at certain times of the year. However, we limit large group bookings in mid and high season, especially during school and bank holidays, unless a group books the entire campsite.
- Parking is limited. So, if you want to bring more than 1 car per pitch, please call reception to agree this beforehand.
Pitches are based on an occupancy of up to 4 persons. For example, each pitch can take either one 4-man tent or two 2-man tents. If you are booking a pitch for up to 4 adults and plan to bring more tents than the standard allowance, you must book an additional pitch. Otherwise, we may not allow you to put up the extra tents.
Please note
- We do not accept Campervans and motorhomes, You must not sleep in any vehicle overnight. If you breach our licence in this way, we will ask you to leave.
- We also do not allow rooftop tents or trailer tents.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of our tranquil campsite, our three eco pods offer a rustic, back-to-nature experience. The pods are just steps from the scenic Coffin Route, you’re only a picturesque 1-mile stroll away from the charming village of Ambleside.
In other words, enjoy the simplicity of camping – without the hassle of pitching a tent. Instead, just arrive, unload and relax.
Pod guests share the campsite facilities, including a shower and toilet block supplied by our private water source. In addition, an on-site hydroelectric plant and solar energy power the whole site, for a comfortable and eco-friendly stay.
What To Expect
- All pods are unfurnished – no heating, electricity, or cooking facilities.
- Guests must bring their own camping and sleeping equipment.
- A weather-resistant alternative to tents.
