Printed and Stitched Landscapes brings participants closer to nature, making connections with the world around us and offers a reflective and inspiring retreat.

During this workshop participants will be taken through the whole process of designing, sampling and creating a piece of printed and embroidered textile artwork that shares their connection to nature. Each person will create something unique to them and outcomes will vary depending on participants interests and inspiration – they may like to create an artwork to frame, a wall hanging or even a book.

The first day will see participants creating their print blocks; using innovative materials we’ll make the print blocks directly from the nature around us – leaves, grasses and flowers. (This isn’t a lino printing process) Participants will then explore layering of colour, masking areas of their print blocks to create interesting effects and printing using a range of media and materials such as fabric and paper. We’ll finish the day with some quick design work (no drawing skills needed) and also an introduction to hand embroidery.

The second day is a chance to create more refined samples and finalise designs – again no drawing skills needed. Participants will begin to create their final piece, which will be completed on the third day.

This workshop is suitable for people of all levels of embroidery and printing experience, with lots of one to one guidance and support along with demonstrations.

Bio

Louise is a textile artist and tutor with her practice centred around connection. That may be through artwork narrating stories and memories or through workshops coming together with others and meeting like minded people. She creates safe spaces, encourage reflection and dialogue whilst connecting personal needs with the social, supporting mental and physical health.

Louise creates research based, textile artwork that narrates hidden stories and memories, protecting and honouring them through stitch. Exploring connection to identity, people, personality and changing personas her work uses deconstruction and reconstruction techniques to tell the quirky, often overlooked stories and facts, re-building pieces much as a story is told and retold.
