Cyanotype: design, print, make

£270.00

Leader: Kim Tillier

Cost: £270, including room, all tutoring and materials, lunch, dinner and refreshments on day one, and breakfast, lunch and refreshments on day two.

Retreat Description:
Participants will learn about:
*The fascinating history of the process.
*Talk about design elements (and possibly collect objects/plants from around the grounds) to act as a “resist”. Responding to the local environment and discussing ideas for a finished piece.
*Mark making and image creation to make “negatives” – we could also use photo editing to create photo negatives.
*Mix chemicals to make a light sensitive solution which they use to coat various materials (paper and fabric) which can then be exposed to UV light – hopefully sunlight!-revealing beautiful and ethereal blue and white images.
*Toning the finished prints with natural tannins from found objects (alder cones, acorns etc).
*Using printed samples to create a finished object (a fabric lantern/nightlight).

“I could not recommend doing one of Kim’s workshops more. I booked two spaces for my mum and I and we both loved it! Kim is so knowledgeable and patient. You can tell that she loves cyanotype and teaching others about it. We both left feeling very accomplished, with artwork from the workshop that we love!”
