As the year begins to turn and the light softens, this quiet day offers space to pause, to listen, and to rediscover the deeper rhythms of faith.
We spend much of our lives waiting — for clarity, for change, for healing, for God to act. Yet waiting is not empty time. In the Christian life, waiting can become a place of encounter: a quiet, often hidden space in which hope is formed and faith takes root.
There is a moment in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when the long winter begins to thaw, and the whisper passes from one to another: “Aslan is on the move.” It is not yet spring. Nothing is fully changed. And yet, something has begun.
So often, the coming of Christ in our lives is like this — not always sudden or obvious, but quiet, gradual, and deeply real.
Drawing on Scripture, prayer, and the rich tradition of Christian reflection, this day explores what it means to wait well. Together we will reflect on themes of longing, attentiveness, and the gentle coming of Christ into the ordinary moments of our lives.
C. S. Lewis once wrote that if we find in ourselves a desire which nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world. That longing — sometimes faint, sometimes sharp — can itself become a place where God meets us.
There will be simple teaching, times of silence, and space for personal reflection in the peaceful surroundings of Rydal Hall.
This is not about having all the answers, but about learning to notice — to become attentive to the God who is already present, and who comes to us often in quiet and unexpected ways.
And perhaps, if we listen carefully, we may begin to sense that something — or Someone — is already drawing near, long before we fully recognise it.
All are welcome, whether new to quiet days or more familiar with reflective prayer.
