‘Faith become a passionate intuition…’ is a quotation from a poem by William Wordsworth about a group of characters who embark on a journey through the countryside. Throughout the poem, Wordsworth emphasises emotion, spirituality and a deep connection to the natural world.
Kate’s workshop will allow participants to explore emotions, spirituality and the subtle intuitions of awe, peace and sublimity inspired by nature. Her approach is accessible and practice-based, enabling participants to express emotions through both words and images. Participants will make connections between visual arts, poetry and the beautiful landscape around Rydal Hall, delving into the imagery of artists including William Wordsworth and William Blake.

Kate will lead the group so that participants are given the space and time to make visual art, to write and to wander in, and to wonder at, the countryside around Rydal Hall. The workshop will be a full experience over the course of two days.
As a group, and individually, participants will explore the nature of permanence, transience and faith, participating in a gentle and intuitive combination of contemplative artistic practices.
Participants will express themselves through the word and create visual art using traditional materials such as pastels, charcoal and paint as well as transient art incorporating elements of nature.

Bio: 
Kate is an established visual artist and author. Major public commissions include sculptures in bronze, granite, copper and resin as well as large-scale site-specific work in natural transient materials such as sand, ice, earth and light. She has won awards for visual art and writing, including the Guardian/Modern Painters Award for Writing on Art, the Robert Graves Poetry Prize shortlist and a Words & Women award; She was appointed UNESCO virtual Writer in Residence with the Australian Tapestry Workshop and was recently shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Flash Fiction Award. Kate has led numerous visual arts and creative writing workshops with a wide range of groups including adults and children from different socio-economic backgrounds.
