Old School Room Tea Shop
Open All Year 10:00am to 5:00pm
(Shorter during the winter months)
Our Tea Shop is open every day throughout the whole year, closing only on Christmas Day.
We serve fair trade coffee, cappuccino, latte, tea, hot chocolates, as well as a selection of cold drinks and ice creams. Our delicious home made soup and scones are prepared every morning and we also serve a wide selection of cakes and tray bakes and freshly made sandwiches.
We use organic milk and cheese from Low Sizergh Farm as well as jam and relish from the Hawkshead Relish Company.
The Tea Shop was rebuilt at the beginning of 2007 and was formally reopened in the July of 2007, to the admiration of our previous and new customers. It is thought that the original Tea Shop building was built by Sir Daniel Fleming as a school-room for his sons. Sir Daniel’s accounts show that he employed a tutor for a few weeks or months, then, when his sons had benefited from all his expertise, a new tutor was appointed to teach a different subject. This rotation seems to have served them well, as many of them studied at Oxford and took holy orders. One of his sons, George Fleming, became the Bishop of Carlisle.
