Rydal Hall - Information
Rydal Hall is the Diocese of Carlisle’s Centre for conferences, activities and retreats. The Hall is a comfortable historic mansion set in 30 acres of grounds in the heart of the Lake District. We offer full board and accommodation in the care of a resident international ecumenical Christian community. We welcome groups of many different kinds, both secular and church groups. Prayers and meditation are integrated into our daily programme, our guests are welcome to join us or to use the chapel at any time.
Open all year, we are available for groups to follow their own programmes, for activity retreats or for private guests.
Rydal Hall's Facilities
Rydal Hall is an elegant historic house with thirty bedrooms, half of which are en-suite. It has excellent facilities, which are available to all resident guests and retreatants. Out of doors, we have our beautifully restored historic gardens and a secluded Quiet Garden, for contemplation. There are acres of woodland with a beck and waterfalls, and a good footpath to Ambleside and Grasmere. The possibilities for walking are limitless, either gentle walks around the garden, more adventurous walks on public footpaths, or out on the fells – Fairfield Horseshoe can be accessed directly from our grounds.
Indoors, the oak-panelled entrance hall gives a warm welcome. There is a chapel where our daily prayer takes place, a library, a number of fine, well-appointed meeting rooms, a licensed bar (a selection of wines & soft drinks is available with dinner in the dining room) and a drying room for wet clothing.
Rydal Hall has been adapted for guests with disabilities within the limitations of an ancient building. Please telephone to discuss your special needs at the time of booking.
Staying at Rydal Hall as a Private Guest
While many groups use the facilities at Rydal Hall for their retreats and training, many individuals and couples stay here as private guests, in one of the most beautiful places in Britain. More and more people are taking advantage of the opportunity to book private accommodation at Rydal Hall for holidays and short breaks. Our location and facilities make the Hall a perfect venue for people looking for a quiet and friendly place to stay, which offers so much more than an ordinary, commercial hotel. That you might meet other people or groups of similarly minded people, adds to the pleasure and sense of welcome.
