Rydal Hall joined the finalists when the best of the county came together for the Cumbria Tourism Awards.
At a splendid event in a huge marquee at Cartmel Racecourse, tourism businesses celebrated a year of success in different categories.
Rydal Hall was one of four shortlisted for the “sustainable tourism” award, which was won by the Blencathra Centre.
Rydal operates as a very green community, with great emphasis on recycling, waste and water management, and organic gardening. The recently opened hydro-electric power scheme was also part of the award submission.
General manager, the Rev Jonathon Green said: “We were thrilled to reach the finals in our first venture with the tourism awards. To be considered a role model in sustainable tourism is very important to us. As a Christian centre, we feel that it is important that we look after God’s creation in all we do.”
