A new series of TV’s Secret Britain will start later this month in the Lake District – including the grounds of Rydal Hall.
The show is presented by Countryfile’s Ellie Harrison, with Chris Hollins, and gold-medal heptathlete Denise Lewis.
Setting out to explore lesser-known areas of the Lakes, the camera team visited Rydal Hall last autumn to film the spectacular waterfall of Rydal Beck viewed from the shelter of the Grotto.
The Grotto is a grade II listed building built in 1668 to provide a window to frame the view of the waterfall. It became famous as part of the Picturesque movement (1780s to 1830s) as an example of a wild and rugged scene to inspire dramatic landscape painting.
The programme will discuss how artists were able to paint in comfort, and will also compare the beck with another wild waterfall in the Lakes.
Secret Britain begins on Wednesday BBC2 at 9pm on BBC2.
